John Wayne, a myth in B+ series films
WHY ON EARTH? 13 FILMS BY AND
WITH JOHN WAYNE? FRENCH & ENGLISH TRAIL BLAZING.
Everyone in the whole world knows John Wayne. I have
known him as an Indian killer for nearly my whole life. So when I saw this
collection, I was intrigued, interested, attracted, and I went on the trail
through his jungle.
Here are the 13 films.
1- Island in the Sky, 1953.
2- Hondo, 1953.
3- The High and the Mighty, 1954.
4- True Grit, 1959.
5- Hatari, 1962.
6- The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
7- Donovan’s Reef, 1963.
8- McLintock, 1963.
9- The Sons of Katie Elder, 1965.
10- In Harm’s Way, 1965.
11- El Dorado, 1966.
12- Rio Lobo, 1070.
13- Big Jake, 1971.
I hope you didn’t do a full cinema night with
these films since, in fact, the 13 films must be close to 25 hours of cinema,
if not slightly more. If you tried this college-student dare, I hope you cut out
beer and pizzas—just a plain lettuce and tomato diet for more than 24 hours,
with eventually one apple a day, you know why.
Next time, you can try the same dare with 13
films by Stephen King. That’s another style. And you always have in store 13
films by and with Charlie Chaplin. Nicely melodramatic, even if you may laugh
like an idiot in front of the pranks, like eating the leather of a shoe, or
taming fleas.

John Wayne is a rare phenomenon in American
cinema: he reflects the world from 1945 to 1975, from a nuclear victory to a
shameful escape.
