John Wayne did too many films that are good enough for Saturday
Matinees for kiddies and tweenies. Twinks, please, abstain. You will get what
you deserve later, on Saturday night, when you sit between your best-friend,
who is slightly more than a best-friend, and your girl-friend, who is not
entirely a girl-friend yet, but soon will be. That’s the problem with twinks.
They sit in-between, and they just take a little bit on each side, and that’s
enough. Then they can deal with the bullies and ruffians who are planning to
disrupt the evening in the bar or the nightclub. If they think they can, they
will have a surprise, because the White Caucasian Knight will intervene and put
all these mediocre dark-souled and tanned-faced punk-disrupters back in their
place, under the table, under our feet, under our six-packs like plain bottoms
they are, and must remain.
These films are from another age, another time, another planet. But
they sure are popular because they caress the audience properly, meaning in the
right places and where it matters most on a Saturday afternoon to build up your
willful determination to be the kings of the road for at least one night, till Sunday
morning when you will have to say “Yes, Ma'am!” to your mother telling you “to
take a shower and change your underwear: it stinks!” Back to reality. “I wonder
what you did last night!” And in your torturous mind, that is as straight as
your morning wood, you tell yourself, “Just the same thing as you did when you
were my age!”
Two people will die in your comfortable dreaming zone, killed instantly
by the two expectorated bullets you cast at them right into their hearts or
between their eyes.
When you get out of the matinee, you are ready to push anyone on
your way, headfirst, into the McDonald’s boiling oil in a deep-fryer.
