M. McLuhan brings Jericho’s
Mediatic Walls Down
Marshall
McLuhan understood and explained that television was a new media that had no
equal because it required, requested, demanded from the audience instant
all-sensorial absolute "like" or "not like."
It has nothing to do with intellectual values, debate or mental arguments. It
is only the reaction of all your senses at what yous ee, first and foremost,
what you hear and what you feel. If you feel comfortable, you like it. You do
not zap and you say it is genially true, no matter what is being said. Remember
Hitler in Munich.
Zuckerberg understood this marvellously and he invented the Social Network, a
new medium carried by a TV screen attached to a computer's Central Processing
Unit and connected to the Internet. It gives the users the feeling of absolute
freedom and it is entirely governed by what you see, what you like, what you do
not like, what you hear from time to time.
Seeing is the utmost manipulation of one's mind because seeing has the
capability of short-circuiting the other senses and particularly the sixcth
sense of the Buddhists, the mind.
Then you do not think, you like; you do not ponder and weigh arguments, you
like. And if you do not click "like" as expected, then you do not
like, hence this is rejected from your data profile and the adverts of
our Zuckerberg will be customised to your likes. And he will make money, a lot
of money. You are the bait that attracts advertisers with your gullible
"likes.".
The next stage came when Brexiters and Trump-supporters decide'd to use social
networks to activate their campaigns. It worked marvellously and we know the
mess that came out of it.
Signed August 30, 2019.
Payday is close. But who will pay the bill? Ask Trump and Boris Johnson. They
have a fair idea that they will not personally pay it.
Discussion Request
It
is high time we go back to Marshall McLuhan and understand he has seen an
essential element about television and it is this very element that is used by
politicians after the inventors of social networks to marshall their campaigns.
This main quality is "all-sensorial agreement." It has become instant
"like" on Facebook, the very-well-named: you judge of things only on
the face you can get of them in a railways or bus station photo machine that
has forgotten its Artificial Intelligence at home, the home of dumb machines.
What
do you think we can do with these media and social networks since they are here
to stay, with a selection that will come with taxes and back payments in all
the countries in the world and will only keep three or four super-powers in
mass-social-communication?

more. Without English, the west is a jungle.
In the East, Asia, Indian subcontinent, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, and
many others, all absent from Biarritz because not invited, without English life

Music Will Survive You
Music Never Ends
Revisited
Music is an adventure. It can choke your
life out of touch with the world. It can build around you and in your mind a
world that is so real you may even forget to breathe. And music is at its best
when voices tell a story haunted by the music itself. I even think that ballet
is even more powerful since it offers the audience the bodies of the dancers
for this audience to admire them, dream of them, desire them within the shrine
of the dramatic story told by the voices and wrapped up in the music itself.
And a silence comes in this sound world. The voices just suspend their gliding
in the air and the dancers freeze in suspended movement. In such an instant of
total suspension the mind, the soul, the senses, all are thrilled into
admiration and ecstasy. And the silence comes to an end. Bliss comes back.
Blessed be the music that never ends and only suspends its flight for one beat
or half a beat.
In the following numerous pages, whose number grows every quarter or so and
will go on growing forever, or at least till death us parts, the newer pages
are often at the top and open the collection. And this time it is John
Adams and his operas that give the first opening salvo. More will come later. I
am on Stravinsky right now. That will come later and I guess I could many older
episodes. And enjoy the numerous pictures of this Musical Heaven.
I can’t resist and give the reference to the book Ivan Eve and I have published
together on Handel’s Agrippina and countertenors in opera. That should be the
appetizer. Just enjoy it intensely.

LOUPS GAROUS ET
VAMPIRES

Ranting and Panting in a Raving
World
THE RANTING BEAUTY OF RAVING MAD
We, Ivan and I, are so deeply dipped
into Asian reality and the future of this planet that after a while we do not
know what is happening around us, if some in this world are dumb enough to set
the world afire just for the privilege of pretending they will never accept to
become number two, or even number three within five to ten years. The same are
ready to do the same thing just to keep their white supremacy in their own
countries where ethnic and religious minorities are little by little crawling
up the social ladder and becoming the global majority in these western havens
of all kinds of fundamentalist, bigot, racist, sexist extremists who are just
frightened by the perspective of having to share power with people of color or
Muslims.
So we live divided between the beauty of ranting and imagining what the world
may become tomorrow and the madness of raving what those who are on the decline
may cause to that world tomorrow morning after a night of sleepless
twitting.
One has the justified right to be afraid.
One has the right and the duty to dream.
One has the right to believe in love and happiness.

Mayas: War, Sacrifice,
Renascence, Drama
The
Mayas were one great civilization in America before the arrival of the
Spaniards. These Conquistadores brought smallpox first, then military conquest,
then Christianity. That meant the wiping out of an enormous proportion of the
population; the burning of thousands of books, known as codices, and only four
survived; and finally the control, management and banning of their traditional
oral culture.
In spite of that tyrannical violence, and it happened in something like fifty
years, the Mayas resisted in all possible ways and first of all culturally.
They kept their languages, their music, and their musical instruments. They
kept their mythological literature and wrote it down from memory. They kept their
dramatic tradition but unluckily only a handful of plays were transcribed from
memory and have survived in versions more or less adapted to Christianity,
hence censored and deeply modified.
Rabinal Achi is one of them and it is being produced and played in Maya-land.
Yet the Mayas still have to face tremendous discrimination and even
persecution. They used to have an escape toward the USA. But Trump has seen to
its not being possible anymore. And yet they do not practice human sacrifice
anymore. But That's how Trump and the white supremacists still see them.
Enjoy and meditate. More is to come.

Jean Clottes, Chauvet and
Paleolithic Shamanism
Working
on Jean Clottes is a great pleasure because of his personal views on
Paleolithic art in Sout-West Europe (France, Spain, and Portugal mainly) and in
this book written and published after forty years of work in the field Jean
Clottes tries to summarize his own life in archaeology. Unluckily he does not
open up the necessary doors that could bring in what has been done since the
year 2000, which he mostly ignores because he has not been in the field then
and he moved in his life too much as an archaeological tourist in many sites
all over the world that all have cave art or rock art, including some that have
not been yet dated like Baja California in Mexico. We would criticize
students if they did that under our guidance because that is not a good method.
Things were different before and after the peak of the glaciation, just for one
remark. So projecting back retrospectively present time shamanism in Southern
Africa onto this Paleolithic art, before the peak and after the peak of the Ice
Age equally is very debatable.
