Black Gay Choir Boy’s Blues
In a preparatory school for Black Boys, hence all-male environment and a nearly all-black environment centering on the choir of this school, two tenors, one baritone and one bass, specializing in Gospels, the new choir leader is a tenor who lives on a scholarship and is gay. The other tenor becomes disruptive and aggressive against this choir leader. But it ends badly in many ways because of the semi-clandestine but never discussed sexual orientations or desires of the various members of this school. Sex is hushed up completely, and it becomes a weapon in the hands of an ambitious person.

Un film génial et époustouflant
ALEXIS MICHALIK – EDMOND – 2019
Voilà un film dont on ne peut rien dire vraiment car il est
parfait, tel que nous ne pouvons que le rêver de bout en bout, alors pourquoi alourdir
le verdict d’une dissection décortiquante. Bien sûr que nous portons en mémoire
cinq ou six versions de cette pièce que nous avons vues dans des théâtres ou au
cinéma. Bien sûr que nous ne pouvons que penser à Depardieu, mais ici le rôle
étant explosé entre la vie réelle et la pièce, entre l’auteur, Edmond Rostand
qui crée et invente la pièce, lettre à lettre, et dieu sait s’il en écrit beaucoup,
certainement plus de trois car SOT n’est pas dans notre univers, et d’autre
part un de ses amis qui jouera un second rôle et qui est amoureux d’une actrice
et ne sait pas lui faire la cour, ami de Cyrano dans la pièce (et la vie réelle
il y a fort longtemps ?), et enfin le Cyrano dans la pièce, le Cyrano
historique Constant Coquelin, bien sûr joué par un autre acteur vivant, lui.
Le plus amusant est que le film n’hésite pas à citer une ou deux
fois Daniel Mesguich et son éternel éphémère, et la trappe est un tour que ce
Daniel Mesguich a souvent utilisé dans son inspiration farcesque de boulevard.
Mais surtout quelque part nous nous y perdons dans les temps, et le seul temps
qui ne se propulse pas sur scène est le temps du vrai Cyrano de Bergerac au 17ème
siècle, sinon une épitaphe que nous nous devons de tous connaître. Mais il est
bien sûr que Cyrano n’est que le prétexte pour parler d’Edmond Rostand qui a
perdu dans la brume de ce monde son frère, le grand spécialiste qui disséquait
des grenouilles, vivantes bien sûr, Jean Rostand.
Mais c’était un temps troublé, la troisième république qui
se finit en 1939 et qui offrit quatre années de boucherie guerrière à la fin de
la vie de notre Edmond Rostand. Mais Jean Rostand devait ne pas être bien loin.
Mais il est sûr que l’on nous mène en bateau sur la Seine, à la godille plus qu’à
la rame, et que les lieux ne sont pas tous, loin de là, vraiment ceux que l’on
vous dit. Le théâtre de la Porte Saint- Martin prend à la fin une ampleur qui
ressemble plutôt à un Palais Royal. Mais qu’importe le flacon pourvu qu’on ait
l’ivresse, j’entends l’absinthe.

de bonnes soeurs mignonnes comme des images de missel dans cette école
péripatétitienne qu'il met en scène quelque part dans son midi secret.
Et il leur jette en pâture un petit Adonis mignon comme un rêve lilbidineux de tous ceux et celles qui aiment les petits garçons, de plus de dix-huiit ans bien sûr, et elles n'en font qu'une bouchée, nos bouchères de bonnes soeurs à cornettes.

Freeloading in the name of empathy

When you come to the point that you do not want to work, and you are declared handicapped to that much, but yet you want to live a decent life, things become slightly dire. If you are retired at 57 with an average pension and you have thirty years of survival in front of you in solitude or semi-couple-solitude with that average pension, you have to be very careful due to inflation and the two cars you want to keep in the garage and the roof that has not been insulated and the windows that are not double-glazing, and so on. Then you become depressed. Then you try to escape in fairy tales with the famous Alice. But that does not pay for the trip of your life to China, a dream that will not become true. Then you think, let's have a demonstration, let's have a rebellion, let's have a revolution, or even let's make this country great again and let's give some premiums to the previously-hard-working retirees, as if any populist would keep such a promise. That's what Leo is telling us. Fascinating and illuminating.

Neither Black nor white but only grey magic
J.K. ROWLING – THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD – 2018
It’s only a screenplay. That means all the magic of the descriptions of scenes and the mental depth of the characters is absent and is only alluded to as possible special effects in the future film. I’ll have to watch the film to know what this screenplay’s potential is, but so far, the semantic content of the plot, if there is one, and of the characters is rather light.
The conflict between the Purebloods on one hand and Les Non-Magiques, the Muggles, the No-Maj, the Can’t-Spells, on the other hand, is rather simple and as such is humdrum and even slightly boring. To give some weight to this conflict it concentrates on the situation between Angus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald who were at Hogwarts at the same time and had some kind of a blood pact that made them blood brothers, which blocked Dumbledore in the fight he should have led against Grindelwald, and the stake between them is Dumbledore’s son who is known in the book a Credence Barebone because due to strange circumstances just after his birth he was swapped with another baby who died soon after. That’s, in other words, melodramatic and slightly easy and the end then is that the unknown and unknowing son of Dumbledore is captured by Grindelwald and integrated into his own camp, hence betraying his real father who is on the other side.
But that is in a way freedom because the other side, the official side, the Ministry of Magic, and so on, is in the hands of some dictator who is imposing his rule through Aurors, some kind of SS that control the life and death of people if they do not think properly, both a thought police and a tyrannical police state. What is this vision a metaphor of? It sounds like the metaphor of Brexit when a vote that had been manipulated by organizations who broke the law during the campaign is made irreversible and an absolute obligation for everyone to have no courage to say no, I must say that Theresa May as an Auror is quite convincing in her Peter’s Principle, or should we invent the term Theresa’s Principles. Kick the door as long as necessary to maybe bring it down after a long while and many attempts.
I am disappointed by this screenplay. Ms. Rowling used to be slightly more convincing with Harry Potter and even with her mysteries or detective social stories. I guess she may have lost some of her magic and she expects a filmmaker to compensate this loss with special effects. I should get the two films soon and I will be able to have a more seasoned opinion.

Tomorrow, or already today, you will have to work with Artificial Intelligence machine. That means you will have to constantly self-learn new skills and new things to be up to these machines and keep them under control. You will constantly be searching for knowledge, accessing it, acquiring it in a way or another, and implementing it in your daily practice. That will be the rule. All other less active and more passive attitudes will be doomed and deemed to disappear. Do you want to disappear with them? And by 2100 the population will just be the same as today because making kids will no longer be the opbjective of both men and women since their objective will be to learn and improve themselves.

Anthropology cannot work like comparative literature. The meaning of anthropology, of history, of archaeology, is in the differences between things and not the similitudes. By reducing all myths, mythologies, folkloric or fairy tales to all common points he gets a skeleton and yet this skeleton does not consider many things that do not go the way Campbell wants things to go. His monomyth is just what it says it is, a myth, meaning it does not exist because it negates differences. It sounds to me like a "Black Face" that is denying each individual the right and duty to be different from all others.
