JEAN-MARIE BESSET PLUS SEXUEL QUE MOI TU MEURS

Abstract:

I worked on five plays by Jean-Marie Besset, a French Parisian and trendy gay-leaning playwright. He touches at times very serious social or cultural subjects but his tendency to bring in sexuality and particularly a gay option that is yet some kind of second choice makes him see the circumstantial side of life and not the existential or spiritual side of the world.

His vision of Molière in the last play is typical: he did not capture the frightening depth of an aging creative mind who needs some young stimulation that cannot be more than titillation to refuel his creative inspiration. Unluckily Besset saw jealousy in Molière where he should have since impatience.
